Sullenberger Aviation Museum (formerly Carolinas Aviation Museum)
The DuSable Museum of African American History is an excellent education center with kid-friendly exhibits and programming. Chicago Cultural Center is one of the most visited attractions in Chicago. The landmark building offers free admission and features two stunning stained-glass domes and hosts free public events throughout the year. When it comes to Chicago’s “no ketchup” rule, kids get a pass at these family-friendly hot dog spots.
Kids will love the small, fenced-in playground on the Princeton Avenue side of the park, along with the larger playground and NFL Play 60 KidZone near the East Boulevard entrance. Splash around the sprayground and enjoy weekly Birkdale Buds events for preschoolers. Stroll this open-air market in the south end, complete with live music, vendors, chefs, and more. Take a walking tour of this area of the Charlotte Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. See lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) at this educational wildlife preserve. Have brunch and stroll the shops and galleries in Charlotte’s historic arts and entertainment district.
Another fun annual event in Raleigh is the Krispy Kreme Challenge, which was started by NC State University students and now happens every year. Raleigh locals flock to the annual North Carolina State Fair every year as it’s always a laugh and full of enjoyment. There’s a decent selection of food with burgers, wings, fries, sandwiches, pizza, and tacos.

We took a visit to Charlotte, North Carolina on our Southern Coast road trip, it was one of our favorite stops on our journey. Charlotte draw in thousands of people every year who go to the city to see the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Just like Raleigh, Charlotte boasts a wide variety of exciting activities for any kind of family or individual. This gorgeous botanic garden has a newly built garden just for kids. Open all four seasons of the year with special events you won’t want to miss. I love to take my kids on one-on-one adventures to the museum.
